Position Summary: The Youth Services Coordinator is a fulltime, exempt, 40-hour week average position.  Serving as a crisis service staff member requires this position to have a flexible schedule, including some on-site office hours in the crisis center when the youth line (heyHQ) is open (currently Thursday - Sunday from 4-7 pm), and occasional statewide travel to promote heyHQ services.

The Youth Services Coordinator will be the main point of contact and participant in youth-focused initiatives and partnerships statewide.  The Youth Services Coordinator reports directly to the organization's Clinical Director.

Job Duties:  The Youth Services Coordinator at HeadQuarters Kansas seeks and creates opportunities to connect and support the youth in Kansas.  This position serves as the organization's lead to statewide youth initiatives to advance the mission and success of the heyHQ youth peer-to-peer contact line in collaboration with the organization's crisis services including being a 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline center.  The position's primary focus is management of HeadQuarters Kansas heyHQ youth peer-to-peer contact line operated by teens (ages 14-18) under the supervision of adult counselors and clinical staff.

Position Expectations
  • Completion (current or eventual) of in-house Crisis Counselor Training;
  • Completion, preferred, or timely completion of Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST);
  • Quality written and verbal communication skills for the purpose of documentation and effective communication with colleagues;
  • Quality conflict resolution skills, including providing direct and compassionate feedback, and effective use of supervision.
  • Effective strategies for managing compassion fatigue and symptoms of burnout, along with a willingness to seek supervision and support from the organization;
  • Promotes healthy relationships and boundaries, ethical practice, and a kind demeanor in the workplace and as a representative of the organization in public;
  • Must pass State & Federal criminal background checks;
  • Reliable transportation.
Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in human services-related field (e.g. social work, psychology, applied behavioral science, sociology, etc.); 
  • 1-year experience in the field of crisis and suicide intervention and prevention;
  • Experience working with adolescents;
  • Quality conflict resolution skills and effective use of supervision;
  • Quality written and verbal communication skills for the purpose of documentation and effective communication with colleagues;
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Suite programs and Google Docs;
  • Effective organization, scheduling, and time management skills;
  • Showcase ability to provide attention to detail;
  • Ability to work independently but also collaboratively with stakeholders.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Master's degree in human service-related field (e.g. social work, psychology, applied behavioral science, sociology, etc.)
  • Licensed with the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board;
  • 2-5 years' experience in the field of crisis and suicide intervention and prevention;
  • Technical skills and experience utilizing workforce management, record management, and telephone and chat/text software;
  • Experience providing and receiving direct and compassionate feedback related to job performance.
Essential Job Duties
  • Develops innovative solutions to challenges associated with maintaining a comprehensive call, chat, and text program answered by trained teen counselors and targeted to youth under 18 years of age;
  • Assists teen counselors during onboarding by providing on-the-job training and support;
  • Provides direct supervision and support to volunteer teen counselors in the form of on-the-job, debriefing, constructive feedback, and contact monitoring;
  • Monitors youth line contacts for quality and support and checks in with counselors, as needed;
  • Collaborates with other crisis center staff to monitor performance and quality metrics in real time;
  • Engages in on-going training activities in collaboration with other crisis service training staff, both within the organization and facilitated through lifeline partners, intended to promote professional development and reduce burnout;
  • Participates in organizational events intended to promote connectedness within the organization and the bordering communities, with focus on youth partnerships;
  • Actively participates in supervision by identifying and communicating personal and organizational strengths, needs, challenges, and solutions;
  • Develops and maintains relationships with community partner agencies;
  • As needed, provides call/chat/text-based crisis intervention to contacts using agency policy, philosophy of care, and clinical best practices;
