Executive Director Position at HeadQuarters Kansas: Lead the Movement for Suicide Prevention

ABOUT US
HeadQuarters Kansas is a non-profit organization serving as the primary provider of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in the state of Kansas. In addition to operating the 988 hotline, we provide crisis and counseling services, training and education programs, and lead public awareness campaigns to create a sustainable, healthy future for all Kansans.

Our Impact
In the past year alone, HeadQuarters Kansas:

  • Answered over 17,798 calls to the 988 hotline in 2023, providing life-saving support to Kansans in crisis. 
  • Answered approximately 90% of 988 calls received, reducing the number of calls going to non-local 988 call centers.
  • Participated in 69 events across the state of Kansas with a 33% increase in engagement from the previous year.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Executive Director serves as the chief administrator, overseeing all aspects of HeadQuarters Kansas’ operations, with a particular focus on ensuring the effective functioning and growth of the 988 hotline. Working closely with the Board of Directors, partner agencies, and funding partners like Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services, the Executive Director is responsible for advancing the organization’s mission, managing financial matters, developing and implementing programs, leading public relations efforts, and fostering a strong team environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Advance HeadQuarters Kansas' mission, core values, and strategic vision, with a focus on the critical role of the 988 hotline.
  • Oversee the operation and expansion of the 988 hotline, ensuring its effectiveness and alignment with national standards
  • Manage day-to-day operations to sustain a smoothly functioning, efficient organization
  • Foster an effective working relationship with the Board of Directors and funding partners like the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services
  • Secure funding from diverse sources, including individual donors and significant grants to support the 988 hotline and other programs
  • Manage fiscal matters and ensure prudent use of all resources, with a keen eye on maintaining funding for 988 operations
  • Serve as chief spokesperson, representing HeadQuarters Kansas and the importance of the 988 hotline across the state
  • Oversee program development and ensure compliance with policies and procedures
  • Manage and supervise agency staff, promoting professional development and collaboration
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
  • Bachelor's in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Healthcare, or other relevant field
  • Minimum of 3 years of management experience in a nonprofit, hospital, healthcare/mental healthcare facility, or other relevant organization
  • Experience managing budgets of $5M+
  • Experience with federal, state, and private-agency grant writing and administration
  • Excellent communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills, as demonstrated in cover letter
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with diverse stakeholders including funding partners, such as the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services
Preferred:
  • Master's in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Healthcare, or other relevant field
  • 3+ years experience working or volunteering at a suicide crisis hotline
  • Experience with strategic planning
  • Experience setting and achieving data-driven outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain a healthy work culture and positive staff morale under stressful work conditions
  • Experience creating and implementing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging initiatives
COMPENSATION

$90,000 - $120,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualification. Benefits package included.
